Artists John and Johanna Bass donated their priceless collection of art to the city of Miami, on condition of being maintained and thrown open to the public. As a consequence the Bass Museum of Art came into being in 1963.
It has an amazing collection of paintings, sculptures and photographs. The museum houses over 200 photographs, 42 masterpieces of sculpture besides portraits and caricatures. The Bass museum enables its visitors to get a feel for the throbbing artistic pulse of Miami by featuring artistic live performances and film screenings.
The Bass Museum shop has an impressive collection of books on subjects like architecture and photography, folk art from different corners of the globe, jewelry made by local and international designers, educational toys and original art work. A visit to the Bass museum will put you back - . The museum is open from Tuesday- Saturday 10am- 5pm and on Sunday 11am- 5pm.
