This is a unique station which treats and rehabilitates one of the most beautiful avian species on earth – the pelicans. Harry and Darlene Kelton moved into a houseboat in Pelican Harbor Marina. Like good Samaritans, they began to notice injured brown pelicans and treat them. Their sole purpose was to save and preserve nature.

Originally founded in 1980, 78 different species of pelicans were treated by 2003. These birds were brought for treatment by government agencies, humanitarian societies and volunteers. Since then the Seabird Station is capable of rising to any emergency, let it be botulism poisoning, electrocution or golf ball strikes.

Groups of about 30 school students are taken for a tour of its premises to understand nature and its role in preserving the ecological balance. Research is also conducted in conjunction with the University of Miami, which includes serologic profiling and identifying physical differences in the shape between male and female brown pelicans.

Office hours: Daily 8:00 am to 12:00 pm & 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm (Including all holidays).
